What Madeira Beach Citizens are Saying

“Yes, it appears our beautiful little city by the water is completely out of control.  A huge mess.  Embarrassing and dangerous to our town’s future welfare.  How do we make things better”.

“The people running our city need to grow up and start acting like adults.  The fact that there has been a mass exodus indicates a poorly managed office and strong personalities that are stubborn and dominating. Therefore, I believe this has created a combative work environment, that in the end made good members wash their hands of the whole deal and leave their position to go elsewhere.  This is going to continue to happen unless something is done. We need team players!
As a resident of Madeira Beach for 18 years, I agree that these two commissioners along with the mayor have destroyed our nice little city government. If any recall proceeds it must include the mayor, also.

Yes We have lived in Madeira for about 8 years and yes we are very disappointed in the city government....all we have heard about is the bickering at each and every turn.....at city meetings, at fact finding meetings.....politics is about giving and taking.....it seems to me that the two commissioners mentioned are always getting in the way of progress....it is like a sports team that seem not to be able to win even when they have great talent.....lets replace the coaching staff....could not hurt....god know we have replaced many players and we are still losing..

I couldn't agree more with the sentiment to remove these commissioners from our city. My wife and I moved to Madeira Beach from Tampa this year, and the dysfunction of our city government is both embarrassing and appalling. Then I read the daily soap opera that documents the revolving door of city managers and other employees that leave out of frustration or are forced out. Interesting that many of these employees who were forced out get hired by some of the neighboring towns. Time to clean house, and start fresh with new capable commissioners.

Have we had enough?

Since the March 2011 Election. the following capable, loyal city employees are now all gone because of intimidation, constant criticism and lack of respect shown by Nancy Oakley, District 3 Commissioner and Robin Vander Velde, District 4 Commissioner:

Mike Maxemow - Forced out as Community Services director after 35 years service, due to the elimination of his position - violation of City charter.
Denise Schlegel - Resigned as City Clerk after 22 years.
Deborah Cline - Forced out as human Resource Manager after 13 years, due to the elimination of her position - violation of City Charter.
Bill Mallory - Recently resigned as Interim city Manager after 33 weeks and has resigned as Fire Chief after 2 years.
Monica Mitchell - Resigned as Finance director after 7 years.
Michael Connelly - Fired as City Attorney after 5 years.
Paula Cohen - Resigned as Development Director after 8 years.

Are you willing to let this chaos continue?  Do you think Nancy Oakley and Robin Vander Velde are the right people to act in the best interests of Madeira Beach Residents?  We would like to hear your comments and take the poll at the right.
